Summer Pt1

This summer we have been making the most of it, with lots of water sports, swimming and ice cream to keep cool!

Summer kicked off for us with the leaving party for Natalie and Rene and then soon after a goodbye dinner for Fannette and Brice. Luckily they're all going back to Europe, so we'll be able to visit them again one day.

We had a voucher for Mitchell's birthday to go kayaking in La Jolla, and once it had warmed up enough for water sports we booked it! It was fun, the tour took us along the coast and into a sea cave, where there were sea lions lined up for a snooze. It was very cool to see this cave which is only accessible by boat.

After the kayak tour, we got some lunch in La Jolla and then spent the afternoon by the beach. While we made sure to suncream very thoroughly, we both missed the tops of our feet while kayaking and had red feet for the next few days.

On 4th July we all had the day off, but it was a Thursday so we couldn't really go anywhere. Me and Mitchell had a nice relaxing day and then met up with friends in the park to have a picnic and watch the fireworks.

The next day I met up with some friends for a very cute girl dinner evening. We went to a cat cafe in Redlands, followed by dinner, ice cream and a trip to Barnes & Noble.

The following weekend, we had a voucher from my birthday, again delayed until summer because it was a water sport! We drove up to an Airbnb in Bakersfield on Friday night, packing 5 people into our little car for the three hour journey. Bruno drove from LA separately and beat us there. It was a whole guest house for the six of us and really nice, with access to a pool and everything. We'd bought some frozen pizzas and drinks and had a fun night in.

Roadtrip buds!

In the morning we went for brunch and then went on to the white water rafting centre! It was so hot that day (44 degrees!!) which meant we were all really eager to jump and play in the water. It was a fun tour with sections of rapids, calm sections where we could jump out and swim or play games. It took less than 20 minutes for my hair to completely air dry. It was the perfect way to spend a crazy hot weekend.

We've spent a few hot days in Riverside making the most of the pool in our apartment, we even bought a lilo which is very fun to float around on.

We had beach days with the group where we both went surfing, and beach days just us to read and enjoy the quiet Mondays. We went back to Laguna Beach, but because our regular parking spot is only available on the weekend we had to get street parking and ended up finding a completely new cove a little further along the coast.

One weekend, Pam came back from Brazil to visit and we had a fun beach day, complete with BBQ, despite her flight being delayed so much she missed the party we had organised for her the night before (we still went out and partied, but it was definitely sad without her).

Mitchell went out to a metal gig with Jamiela and has been doing more improv. He also went out for birthday dinner with the group at a very fancy restaurant on top of a mountain.

Me and Mitchell also went to the Hollywood Bowl. It's an open air theatre, in view of the Hollywood sign, and has all sorts of orchestral performances. We chose the 80s and 90s Disney night, and being in Hollywood they even brought out some of the original voice actors as special guests. Rather than try parking at the venue (which I've only heard bad things about) we got a shuttle which was a lot easier, although we didn't have much time to catch it after the show. It did get us to the venue with plenty of time before the show, and we packed a picnic to eat in one of the many picnic areas. All the tables were busy, but we got a spot under a tree.

That just about wraps up June/July, but summer isn't over yet! We plenty planned for August, so stay tuned.

Lots of love,

Emily and Mitchell
