Beaches, bobcats and brunch

Image
Hello everyone 😊 It's Emily, I'm here again to bombard you with pictures and stories which you or may not find interesting, but happened to us all the same. Your favourite Emily and Mitchell I think this week has been a pretty good one. Apart from Sunday morning. On Sunday, we woke up with the worst Covid jab hangovers. We both had headaches, neither of us had slept very well and were just achey and tired all over. We felt really bad and wanted to spend all day in bed sleeping it off, but we had arranged to meet our friends from Switzerland for brunch at 10am. Luckily, we wake up quite early so we had a few hours to drag ourselves into the shower and prepare for the day.  By the time we arrived at the cafe we felt a bit better and once we had some food (and coffee!) in us we were good to go! We spent a few hours there talking about food in our respective countries, local places to visit and improv. Apparently on Sunday mornings there's a yoga class at the top of Mount Rubi...

Us and Charlotte

Hello friends 🙋 'tis I, Emily. This week has been kind of slow regarding adventures, but very exciting regarding domestic duties. Mainly, WE BOUGHT A CAR!! She is a lovely little blue Honda Fit Sport (apparently this is a Honda Jazz in the UK). She was previously owned by another international post doc who's moving away and had to sell. They named her Charlotte (or Charlie when she goes to the beach) and while we wouldn't normally name a car, it's kinda stuck and now we call her that too. Her seats go down so there's loads of space to pick people up from the airport (hint hint 👀). We can park her in the garage under the apartment block as we have an assigned spot so she is nice and safe. She's so pretty! Lots of room for adventures The people we bought her from were very nice and when we picked up the car, they took us on a tour of their house and let us pick out almost anything we wanted to take too. So, we ended up with a bookcase, an armchair (which is supe...

The new apartment!

Hello, Emily here, writing from our new apartment! It was a bit of a struggle getting here (as you may have seen in the previous post) but we finally made it! We moved in Monday morning and couldn't be happier 😁  Juts look at these happy people It's one bedroom, but a lot bigger than our flat in Nottingham with so much in-built storage, I don't think we'll ever use it all! The kitchen is a good size with a ginormous oven and microwave and a breakfast bar looking out into the main living area.  The bathroom is very nice, it has a bath and an extra sink just outside so we can still brush our teeth while it's occupied.  Actual bathroom to the left We don't have much furniture yet, but the bed frame and mattress have arrived and I'm expecting the sofa any minute now.  Just a Mitchell so far Other than that we have a couple of bar stools (which turned out to be a little too short for the breakfast bar) and some garden chairs for our balcony. Oh yes we have a bal...

How much can we pack into one week? Parks, picnics and pals

Hello friends! What a week it's been 😮 It's Emily here to start off our rundown of what's been happening in Cali. Sunday morning we were up bright and early to catch the bus to DISNEYLAND!! Well, Downtown Disney, which is the shopping district just outside all of the theme parks and is free to walk around and see. It took about an hour and half to get there and the bus dropped us off right outside. We spent a nice couple of hours visiting a giant Disney Store which was full of t-shirts, toys and other gifts, the new Star Wars Trading Post which had toys and collectibles (and lots of baby yoda mechandise) and the lego store which had loads of lego statues of various characters.  There were also deconstructed displays of all of the original Disney characters hidden in parts of the gardens which you could only see when you looked at them from certain angles.  It's Pluto! We bought a giant cookie from the sweet shop which seemed to be staffed exclusively by nice old ladies...
