Waterfalls!
After the last few weeks, we took this weekend a little slower. We spoke to people in the mornings, including a chat with Ben who is going to officiate our wedding in April!
Saturday night we went to an improv show which was fun, and on Sunday we went out for some lunch and a movie date.
Monday was a holiday, we had that day off too. We picked up Natalie and a new international post-doc, Klaudia, for the Trail Canyon Falls hike in the Los Angeles National Forest. It was only a few miles, but it went through hills - which were still green from all the winter rains - and through little patches of trees. We also had to cross the stream several times which was fun, either hopping across rocks or balancing on fallen tree trunks.
The end point of the hike led us down a very steep path, and someone had tied ropes to some of the trees so that we could hold onto them and let ourselves down (and pull ourselves back up on the way back).
After this is was down to the waterfall! It was high (apparently 30 feet tall) and had a lot of water falling over the top. We got some pictures, although it was pretty busy with people, and then ate our lunch overlooking the stream below.
We started back, and then saw a trail which led off to the right. We followed it and reached the top of the waterfall! There was a river flowing through and you could see all the way out through the valley.
The way down was the same as the way up, and we crossed all the streams again. We had a quick pee break, and when we got back we took Klaudia for a walk through the canyon crest towne centre area and went for some much earned dinner.

Tuesday was taco Tuesday and we went for a meet-up event at a Mexican place in Downtown Riverside for some burritos and board games. It was very tasty and very cool inside with murals painted on the walls. Although, writing this on Thursday, Mitchell has just come down with a tummy bug and I'm fine, so it may have been his burrito...
We'll have to see how our weekend plans shape up, especially as it's due to be cold and rainy all week long :(
Lots of love,
Emily and Mitchell
