Bunnyhenge and a Beach Day


 After dropping my parents off at their seaside hotel for the week, we came home and relaxed in all the sudden space. We'd gathered a lot of leftovers during the week including some ham which we weren't going to eat being vegetarian, so we went to go and find the cat that lives outside. We saw that someone else had given him a little bowl of water (in the shape of a tiny toilet) and he seemed to enjoy the ham. We'd picked up some cat treats at Trader Joe's, but we waited until we were out of ham first. 

This week, we also met a new group of people on an app called "meet-up". They do all sorts of fun things in the community and we went to a trivia night held in a food market. It was Marvel and DC themed, so Mitchell did very well with his comic book knowledge and our group actually won! We met lots of people and the group organiser is actually married to another British guy! So we had a lot to talk about.

We went for another meet-up a few days later at the foodlab in Riverside with a smaller group, but we knew a few of the people already from the night before which was nice. 

On Friday evening, we drove down to the beach and met my parents for dinner. They'd picked out a nice Mexican restaurant, and although we had to wait a while for a table, we could wait on the beach, so it wasn't too bad. It was very tasty and they were able to make any dish vegetarian for us!

We stayed the night as their hotel room had a sofa bed, so we all fit into the one room. 

In the morning, we went for a big breakfast at a diner called the Penguin Cafe (which had pictures of penguins everywhere!) and then it was back to the hotel to pack up our things. We packed all of our stuff into the car and headed towards the airport. 

We did take a slight detour on the way to visit Bunnyhenge. I'd seen pictures, but didn't really know what to expect. It turned out to be a whole sculpture garden inbetween the Newport Public Library and the Civic Centre. There were bunnies guiding our route to find it, and several large sculptures tucked away on the long and windy path. It was a lot bigger than I thought, so me and Mitchell will have to go back at some point and properly explore the park and picnic area. 




This time we had to get to the airport, but successfully saw my parents off for their exciting long weekend in San Francisco. 

We then went back to the beach for a beach day. We went to a nice area in Laguna beach we'd been to before, or at least that's where we aimed to go, but I think we got off the beach trolley a stop early. It was still a very nice beach, but Laguna is made up of several coves, and the one we'd been to before had a nice park at the top.

But we had fun walking across the rocks to get to a secret beach (you could only access it by walking over the stones on either side). It was still a little busy, but not as bad as the main beach. We even did a little bit of swimming. The floor was very steep and it only took a few steps to go from knee deep to neck deep. This meant the waves were quite strong, but they were fun to play in!


We read for a little bit and then caught the trolley to go and get some ice-cream. 


After this we went back to the car and drove home after a nice weekend at the beach.

England and Wales

After we arrived back in England, we managed to see a lot of friends and family over Christmas, but not everyone. So once the festivities were over, we went on a little tour to visit some more people we hadn't seen in a few years.  Right after Christmas, we headed to the North by visiting Mitchell's mum for a few days. We took some lovely walks through the countryside and along the beach. One day we walked from Sutton on Sea to Chapel St Leonards to visit the North Sea Observatory. We walked through fields and followed the coastline all the way down.  We also went to Donna Nook and saw some seals! On New Year's Day, Mitchell and his mum went for a dip in the ocean! Another day we did the Top of the Wolds trail, which was about 5 miles. We started in the little village of South Elkington, and about half way we stopped for lunch in Louth. New Zealand

 After Singapore, our next destination was New Zealand! This was something I'd been looking forward to, as it promised to be a mountain lover's dream.  We spent the first three days in Christchurch, exploring the city and catching up on sleep after our long flights. Our first full day, we walked around the city and running some errands. We had to print off our taxes so we went to the public library which was very fancy and had a rooftop garden.  We then had to post our taxes, so we went in search of a post office. We found a booth in a chemist and sent them off, so we don't have to worry about them any more for this year. Errands complete, we grabbed some lunch in a little shopping centre and then continued on exploring the city. There isn't a lot to see in the city centre itself, but we did find a very busy market food hall which we earmarked for dinner. We did get some milkshakes and take them down to the river to drink. Japan pt 1: Tokyo and Kyoto

We arrived later than expected into Japan as our first flight was delayed and we missed our connection. So we grabbed some food in the Shanghai airport while we waited for our new flight, but it wasn't long until we were touching down in Tokyo! On day one we went to a little cafe for breakfast that did veggie plates and rice balls, and then it was into the city to explore. We went to Akihabra, or electric town, which has tons of tech, video game and anime stores. We bought some fun headphones and a crepe and looked around some of the shops.  We also went to visit a bunny cafe! On day two, we went to the Shibuya scramble, one of the busiest crossings in the world. It was mainly busy with tourists taking photos, but all the light up billboards around the place were pretty iconic.
