An attempt at a beach day

This week, as the title suggests, we had a plan which did not quite come to fruition.

The plan for Saturday was to go to Laguna Beach again, but take the mountain road and stop off at a number of spots including the cafe with a view and a short hike to see a waterfall. We got to the cafe fine, it was about 15 minutes along the mountain road and had amazing views. We'd passed it a few weeks ago when we drove up, but hadn't stopped. This time we got some lunch and admired the view before setting off for the next part of our journey.

Unfortunately, as we got close to the stopping point for the waterfall the road was closed and we couldn't go any further! We tried to find away around, but it seems there is only one road through to get to the beach and we couldn't drive on it. We thought about going back and taking the highway, but that would mean going almost all the way home just start the journey again so we had a look things to do a bit closer to where we were.

Clue is in the background of this photo

When we were up the mounatin we had a view of Lake Elsinore below and on the way down we managed to find a stretch of beach by the edge of it. We set up our towels by the water's edge where there was a cool breeze coming across and suncreamed up! The lake was so big, we could barely see across to the other side where the mountains rose up and there were waves lapping at our ankles which where made even bigger every time a boat or jetski skimmed across the centre of the water. We went in, expecting just to paddle like we did in the cold pacific ocean at Laguna, but it was so warm! It has to have been the warmest water I've ever been swimming in!

Shiny happy people

We had so much fun splashing around and it was so refreshing to come out into the cool breeze before quickly drying off in the hot sun. It was a great way to spend the afternoon and is only about a 40 minute drive from where we live so we could come back for a picnic any time!

On Saturday we chatted to some of our families and then went back to the foodlab in Downtown Riverside for some lunch. We've tried a lot of food from there, but there's still more to go! This time we got some raman and while it was very tasty, we're excited to try the other options next.

Raman, boba tea and a fortune cookie

We then went to the park for a little while to sit on the soft grass and digest our lunch.

This week in volunteering has been pretty fun. I've done some weeding, getting ready for the plant sale in October, but I've also started my own project in the herb garden. The handheld map and the physical signs in the garden are all out of date, missing or the plants are in a completely different place, multiple places or missing altogether. So my job is to take stock, recategorise, re-order and re-create a new map for visitors online. It should keep me busy all summer!

The only thing in this pot is a weed

So much to do, so little thyme

Thanks for reading!
